The app shows these texts before you turn on cloud backup. You agree with a separate button; both levels are off by default. The app records when you agreed to or withdrew which version. If a text changes, it gets a new version; earlier versions remain listed here.
Back up events to the cloud
Version events-2026-10-1
I want to back up selected events from Murmel to the cloud so that I can access them on my other devices.
What is backed up: time, duration, type of sound and transcript of the events and nights I select or have backed up automatically. Audio only if I agree to it separately.
Health data: this information may allow conclusions about my health, for example coughing, snoring or sleep habits. I explicitly consent to its processing for this purpose (Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR).
Purpose: only so that I can access the data on my devices. No advertising, no analysis, no training of AI models, no disclosure to others.
Encryption: type of sound, time, duration and transcript are encrypted on my device; the operator cannot read them. In plain text the server sees my email address, my IP address, when I upload, how many entries there are and roughly how large they are, whether audio is included and in which week an entry expires under the retention period.
Key: the key is stored in my iCloud Keychain and in my recovery key. If I lose both, nobody can restore the cloud data.
Retention: until I remove or delete them from the cloud, at most until the end of the cloud retention period I set in the app (default 90 days). Anything I choose to “keep in the cloud” is excluded.
Location: Supabase, data centre in Frankfurt am Main. The service providers are listed in the privacy policy.
Other people: recordings may contain the voices of others in the room. I let people sleeping near me know.
Voluntary and revocable: Murmel works fully without the cloud. I can withdraw my consent at any time in the settings; the cloud copies are then deleted immediately, and from server backups within 7 days. Everything on my devices stays. Withdrawal only affects the future.
Also back up audio
Version audio-2026-10-1
I also want to back up the audio recordings of selected events to the cloud. This requires the consent “Back up events to the cloud”.
What is backed up: the audio file of the events for which I choose “with audio” or have backed up automatically with audio. It is encrypted on my device; the operator cannot listen to it.
Health data and other people: recordings may allow conclusions about my health and may contain the voices of others in the room. I explicitly consent to processing for this purpose (Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR) and let people sleeping near me know.
Retention and withdrawal: as for events. If I withdraw only this consent, all audio files in the cloud are deleted immediately; the events stay backed up.
